Cheek Augmentation

Prominent cheeks are considered cosmetically pleasing, but in some people the cheekbone is indistinct, resulting in a flattened appearance of the face. Cheek augmentation is performed to emphasize the cheekbones. Flattened faces can be seen in some ethnic groups, with congenital differences, and after injuries to the face.  It is also evident in many normally developed people. Improving the prominence of the cheekbones in the older age group has the result of tightening the facial skin and soft tissues as well.

What type of implant will I have?

Surgical enhancement of the cheeks can be performed through an augmentation procedure using implants. There are several types of implants available and the choice depends on your specific anatomy. The main type of implant used is called Medpor (porous polyethylene), but silicone, Gortex and hydroxyapatite (coral) can also be used.

The procedure is usually performed through an incision in the mouth, placed just above the gum line. A pocket is created above the bony surface of the cheek to insert the implant.  The implant is positioned and stabilized using a screw that provides stability to the implant during the healing phase.

How do I prepare for procedure?

Prior to any procedure, it is necessary to review medications you are taking that may affect your procedure. You may be asked to stop or adjust some medications you are on.

There is minimal discomfort associated with cheek augmentation. There will be a moderate amount of swelling around the cheek area and possibly under the eyes. This peaks at 48 to 72 hours after treatment and then starts to subside. Crushed ice applied to the cheeks will help during this time. Most of the visible swelling will disappear by about 2 weeks. There may still be a feeling of numbness, which means that some swelling is still present. It will take several weeks before the last bit of swelling has resolved. You should not sleep on your face for at least 6-8 weeks following treatment. Oral pain medication is used to control your post-operative discomfort.

Botox and Dysport

As people get older, they develop wrinkles around their eyes and on their forehead. There’s even the nickname “crow’s feet” which describes the creases and wrinkles on the sides of the eyes. Some people may choose to live with these wrinkles while others will want to do something about them. Fortunately, there is cosmetic treatment available which can reduce the appearance of these wrinkles and get you looking younger again. That treatment is called Botox.

Botox is one of the most popular anti-aging cosmetic treatments available. It is not just a treatment reserved for celebrities and wealthy people. Laypeople all over the country are turning to Botox to reduce the appearance of their wrinkles. It is suitable for both men and women alike. The Botox procedure involves a few simple injections in the areas of your face where you want to smooth out the wrinkles. Best of all, it will be performed by a licensed cosmetic specialist with the proper knowledge and experience in administering Botox treatments. Rest assured that you will be in good hands when you get your Botox injections done.

The Botox Injection Process

Fine lines naturally form in our facial skin as we get older. Facial expressions cause the muscles in our face to the contract which creates greater depth in the lines. With Botox, it gets injected into these facial muscles to stop them from contracting. That way, the fine lines do not appear too deep or wrinkly. The Botox formula consists of small amounts of botulinum protein that is purified. These proteins are perfectly harmless and work quickly in the muscles under the skin.

Every client will receive a facial analysis before the injections are administered. This analysis will pinpoint the proper areas of the face where the injections need to go. When it comes time to get the actual injections, you have nothing to worry about. You will not need anesthetics or sedatives because there is virtually no pain involved. Remember this is not a surgical procedure or anything like that. It is simply a series of injections with a fine needle that will do nothing more than cause you to feel a small pinch. The whole procedure should be over within 10 minutes. Once it is over, you can leave the facility and return to your healthy life with no problems.

The Results

After the injections are delivered, most patients will see some results within 24 to 48 hours. However, it may take up to 7 days for the full results to present themselves. Touchups are available for free after three weeks from the date of the initial treatment. Your cosmetic specialist will examine the final effects to determine if touchups are needed.

Botox is not a permanent cosmetic treatment. Your wrinkle-free appearance will last you anywhere from 3 to 5 months. Then you will need to go back to the aesthetic specialist to get the injections done again if you want to maintain the results. When you consider that it is only a painless 10-minute procedure every 3 to 5 months, does that sound so bad for keeping a youthful appearance?
