Dermal Fillers

If you are unaware, then for your knowledge, dermal fillers are injectable products that are used to improve the appearance of facial wrinkles, effectively ‘filling’ them in and making them much less visible. Most fillers on the market are not permanent, as they tend to become absorbed into the body within around 6-8 months. Their efficacy will depend largely on the skill of the technician, the overall health of the skin, and the type of filler that’s used.

Are Dermal Fillers Painful To Administer?

This question is not as easy to answer as it might first appear, because there are several variables at work. Usually, the technician will apply a topical anesthetic to reduce or eliminate the chance of any discomfort, but there is also the aspect of where on the face the injections are applied. Dermal fillers can be used under the eyes, in the folds of the nose and mouth, in the cheeks, and lips, and in marionette lines (lines that go from lip edges down to the chin). Anesthetic aside, the pain caused by injections will vary from place to place, with the nasal area being amongst the most painful. This is because these areas contain more nerves and as such, cause more pain.

Where Are Fillers Used On The Face?

Filler can be used on several different areas on the face, each producing a positive effect on the location. The plumpness and definition that fillers offer are best used on the following areas: On lines over the top lip the nasolabial fold (a line between the nose and the mouth), the melomental fold (lines between the mouth and the chin), in the lips themselves, increasing a volumizing and defining effect under the eyes on the back of the hands to reduce prominent veins, on the cheeks or cheekbones for volumizing reasons, and on frown lines applying filler to these areas will significantly uplift the overall appearance and freshness of the face.

What Do Dermal Fillers Contain?

The first and most important thing to address is that dermal fillers contain no animal or human DNA material, as they are all created synthetically in a laboratory. All of the products that our technicians use are FDA-approved and contain elements such as hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a sugar commonly found in the skin. Brands you might encounter include Juvéderm, Voluma, and Restalyn. There are a few differences in the efficacy and smoothness of each brand, which we’d recommend talking to our team about to find the best one for your needs.

How Long Do Dermal Fillers Take To Become Effective?

Well, the good news is that the effects are quite immediate, but it might take a week or so for your skin to settle down into its final condition. However, many of our customers express delight directly after the treatment, even before things have calmed down.

Is There Anyone Who Shouldn’t Have Dermal Fillers?

Fillers are suitable for most people, but if you bruise easily then you should think twice about having the treatment. Also, should you be pregnant or currently breastfeeding, you should wait until this is no longer the case before having it done.
